Srinagar, Aug 10: Assistant Professor aspirants, who are scheduled to appear for the screening test on August 27, have appealed to the authorities to reschedule the exam date.
According to aspirants, the screening test aligns with the revised recruitment rules and a newly-designed syllabus, signifying a significant shift in the evaluation process. They said the screening test demands a thorough preparation to meet these new criteria, given their diverse educational backgrounds.
“What sets this plea apart is the unique circumstances many of us face. With some of us having existing contractual commitments in various educational institutions, we find ourselves juggling teaching assignments and research responsibilities. This added challenge necessitates more time for focused preparation,” they said.
Javaid Ahmad, an aspirant, said it is “truly disheartening” to witness the hurried approach of the JKPSC in conducting the exam. “This recruitment came after a decade, and those eagerly anticipating it should be granted ample time for thorough preparation. Given that a significant number of applicants are either contractual college instructors or actively involved in research, expecting them to adequately prepare within a month is nearly impractical,” he said.
Another aspirant said, “If the exam proceeds as planned, it is highly likely that only recently qualified NET and SET candidates will succeed.”
“These individuals would eventually need to pursue their PhDs once they assume teaching roles in colleges. This highlights the lamentable state of the system,” she said.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, CPI(M) Central Committee Member, supported the aspirants’ plea.
Tarigami took to the microblogging site X, formerly Twitter, and wrote, “Requesting @OfficeOfLGJandK to provide more preparation time to Assistant Professor aspirants as the screening test, scheduled on August 27, 2023, is for the first time being conducted in accordance with the revised recruitment rules and newly designed syllabus.”
“Additionally, many of these aspirants, who work on a contractual basis in different institutions, have to juggle the teaching assignments and research. Rescheduling the date of written test will enable them to prepare efficiently,” he tweeted.
