Jammu, Mar 05: Six grenades and 127 rounds of highly sophisticated Pika Gun were recovered along Jammu-Poonch Highway near Manjakote area on Sunday, Police said.
“127 rounds of Pika Gun and 6 grenades were recovered near Manjakote area of Rajouri where the digging work for construction of Neali Road was going on,” SSP Rajouri, Mohd Aslam informed Rising Kashmir, adding, “the workers engaged in digging for road construction work spotted this ammunition dump and informed the Police after which the team immediately rushed to the spot and recovered the Pika Gun rounds and grenades”.
The SSP further said that the recovery has avoided a major tragedy as the ammunition could have been misused by the terrorists. He added, “The Pika Gun is a highly sophisticated weapon and misuse of these 127 rounds by the terrorists has been averted by the recovery”.
Meanwhile officials said that the ammunition recovered from Rajouri on Sunday appears to be oldbutmaintained that it could possibly be due to dumping beneath the ground .
When contacted, SSP said that a thorough investigation by the experts was required in this regard. “We will approach the experts in this regard,” he said.
“How old was the dumped ammunition which was recovered today and whether it was still effective and usable has to be decided and ascertained by the experts,” the Rajouri SSP said, adding, “Their opinion will be sought”.
