JAMMU, Mar 06: Both Urban Local Bodies of J&K i.e Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), will soon launch a portal where residents of this union territory (UT) will be required to voluntarily disclose their property information in order to pay property tax, officials informed.
“The property tax is to be levied from April 1 onwards and the portal will be launched within days as we are trying to simplify it with all calculations to make it easier for a common man to file his property details,” Joint Commissioner Revenue, JMC, Rakesh Mahajan informed Rising Kashmir adding, “the people will just have to click and submit their property details in the portal”.
The Joint Commissioner of Revenue added that as people will have to enter their property information on the Municipal Corporations’ official portal, the property tax will be based on self-assessment.
According to officials, the Municipal Corporations of J&K UT have also created a roadmap for monitoring cases when persons fail to report unpaid property taxes or provide inaccurate property information on the government’s official portal.
“Random scrutiny in the areas where gross violations are found and noticed will be done,” Manager Smart City, JP Singh informed and added, “These violations will be noticed by the ULBs of J&K through Satellite images”.
In order to deliver all necessary and basic services to the people at their doorsteps, a door-to-door GIS survey has been ongoing in J&K UT over the past six to seven months. Each household participating in the poll will receive a QR code that may be used to submit complaints or requests for JMC services.
“Measurement of land and houses is going on under the GIS survey in J&K,” JP Singh said and added, “This measurement of land and houses will help the government in identifying the violators of property tax”.
Singh said, “Today we are measuring the land, constructed area of each house and are recording and compiling the data of each and every household in J&K,” and added, “after some months, the Satellite images will provide us the details of each household that whether the owner has submitted proper details in the official portal or not and after some months has he done more construction and not disclosed in the portal”.
“The Satellite images regarding measurement of land and constructed area during the ongoing survey will be recorded and the construction work thereafter will be superimposed and we will come to know about the violations,” JP Singh further said.
