Srinagar, May 25: Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Vijay Kumar and Director General of Police Dilbag Singh on Thursday hailed the efforts of officers and other security agencies for the successful G20 summit in Srinagar.
The third G20 tourism working group meeting in Srinagar was the first major international event in Kashmir. For the three-day G20 Summit, from May 22-24, Kashmir was under a three-tier security grid.
In a tweet, ADGP Kashmir Kumar congratulated officers and jawans of JKP, CRPF, Army, BSF, SSB, NSG, MARCOS, NDRF & intelligence agencies for conducting incident free & successful G20 Summit.
During the three-day event, the entire region was put under a three-tier security blanket, including aerial drone surveillance. The authorities had deployed the elite National Security Guard (NSG) and Marine Commandos (MARCOS) in and around the venue to secure it. The schools in Srinagar were also closed for three days.
In a tweet, Mayor of Srinagar, Junaid Azim Mattu said “The successful culmination of the Third Tourism Working Group (TWG) meeting of the G20 in Srinagar with the participation of nearly 60 foreign delegates is a tribute to the people of Srinagar and their spirit of hospitality. Gratitude to all those involved in ensuring this.”
A senior official at Srinagar International Airport said that all G20 delegates left in chartered flight around 10.20 am for New Delhi. They were satisfied with the arrangements of the UT administration,” he said, adding that some delegates also took out Kashmiri gifts from the airport stalls.
Around 57 foreign dignitaries from 27 countries and over 100 delegates from union ministries and other organisations from Delhi were part of the meeting held in the picturesque Sher e Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) on the Boulevard Road built on Dal Lake.
The dignitaries released a draft for the national strategy on film tourism as the Ministry of Tourism signed MoUs with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for film tourism promotion in the country.
Throughout the event, the officials and delegates promoted Kashmir as a major tourist destination in India and called for further exploration. The delegates also prepared a roadmap and declaration for the final meeting on Tourism to be held in Goa later this year.
Meanwhile, the DGP, J&K Dilbag Singhthanked and congratulated all ranks of Police/CAPFs and other agencies involved in the duties for the G20 for the excellent work done by them over the last three days in ensuring a smooth and secure G20 event here in Kashmir.
Historic three Day-G 20 event (May 22-24) comes to an end today with delegates taking a flight back and leaving behind all good memories to be cherished by the people of Jammu and Kashmir for long. This event has opened new vistas and hopes, denouncing many myths and fake anti-Kashmir and anti-peace narratives based on falsehood and propagated by our neighbouring country.
People of Kashmir deserve special compliments for seeing through the falsehood of Pak narratives and welcoming and participating in the event in every way wholeheartedly.
