Ganderbal, June 09: The Regional Transport Officer (RTO) of Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari (JKAS), has announced plans to address overcharging issues faced by tourists and enhance the transport system at the Weigh Bridge in Sonamarg. In a visit to Sonamarg, accompanied by ARTO Ganderbal Wajahat Ali and other officials, RTO Bukhari responded to tourist complaints and emphasized the importance of a streamlined weighing process.
Following reports of overcharging, CEO Sonamarg has taken notice of the issue and officially displayed the rates for visitors. Additionally, a comprehensive rate list will be prominently placed at various tourist spots to ensure transparency and facilitate fair pricing.
During the visit, RTO Bukhari acknowledged the possibility of loaded vehicles evading the weighing process due to a lack of manpower. In response, the transport department will undertake further measures to prevent any losses. Currently, CCTV cameras are installed at the Weigh Bridge, but they are not yet online due to limited internet connectivity. However, RTO Bukhari assured that the internet facility will soon be installed, enabling real-time monitoring and preventing loaded vehicles from evading weighing procedures.
To address staffing challenges, the department has initiated recruitment efforts to bolster manpower. The additional staff will be deployed strategically to areas experiencing shortages, ensuring smooth operations and minimizing inconvenience for drivers.
RTO Bukhari emphasized the importance of these measures in enhancing the transport system at Sonamarg. Once implemented, the online CCTV cameras and increased manpower will contribute to fair practices and improved efficiency, benefiting both transporters and tourists.
