Jammu, June 23: The Department of Physical Education & Sports of Government SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu on Friday organised Intra-College Gatka (Men) competition/ Demonstration activity under the aegis of “International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking”.
Gatka is a Martial Art Sports which is recognized as a National Sport. The event started with players displaying different skills of this Martial Art form which fall under the fold of Gatka.
Addressing the students, Malik Aijaz Iqbal emphasized the importance of such high endurance sports for youth as it would help them in staying away from the menace of Drugs Abuse and keep them fit for all challenges of life.
The College Principal, Dr. Surinder Kumar inaugurated the event and said that Physical education keeps the students physically fit, mentally alert, socially sound, emotionally stable and spiritually enlightened.
The Principal of the College congratulated all the participants and boosted the morale of the participants.
Other dignitaries present on the occasion were Prof. Shafkat Jahangir, Convener Sports Committee, Dr. Sandhya Bharadwaj, Prof. Savita Jamwal, Dr. Monika Malhotra, Prof. Deepshikha Sharma, Prof. Ashu Manhas, Dr. Nazia Rasool, HoD EVS, Prof. Apfan Ali, HoD Urdu and Sardar Ravinder Singh (Gen. Secretary Gatka Association of J&K).
It is pertinent to mention here that Umran after a lacklustre performance in IPL 2023 has worked very hard at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and at his home ground in Jammu.
“I feel ecstatic on my selection and will leave no stone unturned in grabbing this opportunity with both hands,” said Umran after his selection.
