Kulgam, May 31: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will lead an anti-drug padyatra in Kulgam on Monday under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan – a mass awareness campaign aimed at mobilising public participation against substance abuse and promoting a drug-free society.

The padyatra is expected to witness participation from youth, students, civil society members, public representatives and residents from across the district.

Ahead of the event, preparations were nearing completion at Laroo Bus Stand, where participants are expected to assemble for the programme.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam Shahzad Alam said the district was witnessing considerable enthusiasm among the people for the anti-drug initiative launched by the Lieutenant Governor.

“At Laroo Bus Stand, our preparations are almost fully complete. There is a great deal of enthusiasm and excitement among the people regarding the anti-drug campaign launched by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha,” he said.

“We are witnessing strong public participation in this initiative, and we hope that people from across Kulgam will join it. While the number of participants is important, what matters even more is that people from every area, village, panchayat and locality of Kulgam take part,” Alam added.

He said the message of the campaign should reach every village, locality and corner of the district so that a collective movement against drug abuse is built at the grassroots level.

The padyatra is part of the larger Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan being spearheaded by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha across the Union Territory. Through public outreach programmes, awareness drives and community participation, the campaign seeks to strengthen society’s response to drug abuse and encourage collective action against the menace.

Meanwhile, the Traffic Police Rural Kashmir has issued a traffic advisory in view of the mega rally (Padh Yatra) being conducted under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in Kulgam on June 1.

According to the advisory, movement of vehicular traffic from Khudwani Crossing up to Chawalgam Chowk via Laroo Bus Stand and Ganta Ghar, and from Sangus Crossing up to Laroo Bypass Crossing via Circle Road Kulgam, shall remain completely suspended from 4 am to 3 pm. Motorists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel within Kulgam town during the event and follow the notified diversions and alternate routes to ensure smooth movement of traffic.
