Kulgam, May 31: The speakers at a seminar titled “Role and importance of students in society” organized on Wednesday by South Asia Center for Peace and Peoples Empowerment (SACPPE) and Government Degree College (GDC), Kulgam, said that students have the power to shape the world and their knowledge, skills, and creativity can contribute in solving some of the world’s most pressing issues.

Principal GDC Kulgam, Dr Syed Eazaz Hussain Rizvi in his speech spoke about the responsibilities of students in nation-building. “Besides education and other things, students must create in them a spirit of social service. Students are the future rulers and leaders and the future of our country depends on our students,” he said.

While appreciating the efforts of the SACPPE in organizing such events in educational institutions, Dr Rizvi said the main motive of today’s seminar was to highlight the importance of students in society and give them a chance to show their talent and skills.

“The future is Artificial Intelligence and advanced technologies and for that students need to be skillful. Students have to take moral, social and basic responsibilities along with them after finishing their degrees,” he added.

SSP Kulgam, Sahil Sarangal (IPS), who was the chief guest on the occasion, said hard work always pays off. Quoting his example he said, “I was an average student. You can be a game changer if you work hard. Money is not everything, but knowledge is,” he said.

The SSP gave tips to the students about cracking UPSC exams and also advised them to aim high and never give up. “Learning is a continuous process and you shouldn’t get disappointed after one failure,” he said.

The SSP said that conspiracies were going on in the society for which everyone, including students, have to remain alert. “Mobile phones should be used for positive things and not negative. Don’t lose hope, confidence. Stay away from drug abuse as it ruins lives and families,” he said.

Mehrun-Nisa, a student of the DDC Kulgam in her speech said that students were the workforce in the society. While quoting Nelson Mandela she said “if you want to destroy the nation then destroy its education system. So we have to safeguard our education system, if we have to progress as a nation.”

S Omar Bhat, Vice-President SACPPE, who gave the welcome address, said it’s the student who builds the nation and it’s the student who is the future of the nation. “Students are like the ambassadors who share the information and later it gets replicated to others,” he said.

Dr NIsar Nadeem, Assistant Professor and in charge of the event and debate coordinator, said, “We always try to provide a good platform to students so that they become an example.”

On the occasion, meritorious students were facilitated with awards by the SACPPE.

Dr Hashim Iqbal, assistant professor of history said students wanted such impact programmes and the need of the hour was to take it to the grassroots level from schools, colleges to universities.

SACPPE is a government-registered, non-profit and apolitical organisation which is working for the cause of all-round development of the society and promotion of education, research and learning.
