Budgam, Aug 19: Chairman People’s Democratic Front (PDF) and former minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen on Saturday made a fervent appeal to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to open a degree college in the Khag area of Budgam, saying it was a long-pending demand of the people of this “educationally backward rural block”. He also demanded a sub-district hospital in the remote area.
Speaking at a party meeting here, the PDF chairman, according to a statement, also urged the government to execute work on the ambitious Yusmarg-Doodhpathri-Tossamaidan- Gulmarg tourist circuit as early as possible. “This will open new galaxies on the tourism horizon of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said, adding that this ambitious tourist circuit would not only open new vistas of livelihood for the local population but would also bring a turnaround in the tourism landscape of the UT.
He said various areas falling under the proposed tourist circuit were dotted with vast and varied tourism potential including adventure, trekking, mountaineering, skiing, winter and pilgrim tourism, etc.
The development of the Yusmarg-Doodhpathri-Tossamaidan-Gulmarg tourist circuit was a dream project, imperative for the overall socio-economic transformation of the rural Budgam, he said.
Meanwhile, the former minister said the people of J&K were yearning for peace with dignity. He said the Central government should honour the commitment of the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee that the “sky was the limit” to meet the socio-political aspirations of the people of J&K.
Hakeem said the people of J&K were seeking fulfillment of their free will about rights on land and employment to the rightful domiciles as guaranteed under the Constitution.
The meeting, as per the statement, was convened to take stock of the prevailing socio-political situation in J&K. Chairman District Development Council (DDC) Budgam, Nazir Ahmad Khan attended the meeting as a special guest.
