Traffic restored on Sgr- Jmu NH

Srinagar, Feb 07: The traffic movement on 270 kilometres Srinagar-Jammu highway was restored on Wednesday after the highway remained closed for maintenance of road for 24 hours. Hundreds of stranded vehicles from both sides were allowed to move towards respective destinations.
A J&K Traffic Police spokesman said that traffic was restored on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH 44), Single way Traffic at Dalwas, all commuters to observe lane discipline and strictly follow law enforcement agencies directions. No overtaking, he said.
The spokesman said that SSG Road, Mughal road, Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road and Bhaderwah-Chamba road were closed for vehicular movement due to snow accumulation.
He said NH44 was maintained and repaired at Dalwas , Mehar , Hingani, Sherbibi, Kishtwari Pather, Hingani along Nashri and NAVYUG Tunnel..
The spokesman said on Thursday, subject to fair weather and clearance of road, LMVs Passenger/Private Cars/HMVs/Load Carriers shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
“These vehicles shall be allowed from Nagrota (Jammu) towards Srinagar and from Qazigund towards Jammu after 0800 hrs. after getting a green signal from both ends. Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline,” he said.
Meanwhile, the meteorological department has forecasted dry weather till February 17 and snow and rain thereafter, cold wave conditions continued in Kashmir Valley on Wednesday as minimum temperatures stayed below freezing.
As per MeT data, Srinagar recorded a low of minus 2.0°C, Qazigund minus 3.2°C , Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 10.8°C, Kokernag minus 4.3°C, Kupwara settled at minus 3.3°C, Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 10.0°C, Jammu recorded a minimum of 5.0°C, Banihal minus 0.3°C, Batote minus 0.4°C and Bhaderwah minus 2.0°C.
Regarding the forecast, Director MeT Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said that the weather is expected to be dry till February 17. “Overall, dry weather is expected till February 17 with occasionally cloudy evening during February 14.”
He said there is a possibility of light snow and rain during February 18 to 20. It also said that in view of significant snow accumulation and sub-freezing temperature over many hilly areas, travelers are advised to follow advisories issued from administration and Traffic Police.
