Leh, Oct 12: In a remarkable demonstration of their commitment to community safety, the Indian Army successfully conducted a demining operation in three regions within the Leh district.
After appeals from local residents residing along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh, the Army led the operation of the safe disposal of 175 landmines.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the villagers from Phobrang, Yourgo, and Lukung, Deputy Commissioner of Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve, praised the efforts of the Fire and Fury Corps.
“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Fire and Fury Corps for their prompt and effective efforts in securing and clearing these areas, resulting in the destruction of over 175 mines,” the DC said, adding that this operation not only removed a longstanding hazard but also deepened the bond between the civilian and military communities in Ladakh.
The sarpanch of Phobrang also conveyed his thanks, saying, “I want to extend my sincere gratitude to the Indian Army for eliminating these mines, which had been planted back in 1962. These mines had been causing significant harm to our community over the years.”
The operation has not only ensured the safety of the local population but has also provided relief from a historical danger that has loomed over the region for decades.
