Leh, Aug 18: Dozens of truck drivers have been stranded at Khangral in Leh for the last five days after a cloudburst triggered flash floods at Lamayuru, disrupting traffic on the Srinagar-Leh highwayThe stranded drivers said they are facing immense difficulties as their edible supplies have run out. “We have been stuck here for the last five days and are still waiting for the green signal. The administration has provided water, but our food items have finished,” one of the drivers said.While light motor vehicles have been allowed to ply on the highway, heavy vehicles continue to remain halted, compounding the crisis for truckers carrying essential commodities and goods.The drivers appealed to the Union Territory administration of Ladakh to ensure the immediate reopening of the highway for heavy vehicles as well. “We request the authorities to clear the road for trucks too so that we do not face further hardships,” they said.The Srinagar-Leh highway, a vital lifeline connecting Ladakh with the rest of the country.
