Srinagar, Aug 11: The Department of Zoology at GGM Science College, in collaboration with the Eco-Environment/E-Waste Committee, organised an awareness event on “Solid Waste Management and Best from Waste” aimed at promoting waste reduction, recycling, and the creative reuse of discarded materials.As per a statement issued here, the programme was inaugurated in the presence of Principal Dr Romesh Kumar Gupta, who served as the Chief Guest. It was held under the guidance of Dr Rahul Kait, Head of the Department of Zoology, and Dr Nitasha Sawhney, Convenor of the Eco-Environment/E-Waste Committee. As part of the event, students showcased a range of innovative models and projects demonstrating how waste materials can be transformed into functional and aesthetically appealing items. Special guests Dr Brinder Kumar, Prof Bal Krishan, and Dr Jyotdeep Kour evaluated the students’ work, praising their creativity, scientific approach, and environmental awareness. The success of the event was attributed to the efforts of the organising team, including Dr Sheetu Raina, Dr Neha Mahajan, Dr Neha Sharma, Prof Poonam Kundan, Dr Mateen Hafiz, Prof Asha, Prof Reetika, Dr Ram Krishan, Dr Richa and Dr Muzzafar. Principal Dr Romesh Kumar Gupta commended the initiative and highlighted the need to integrate sustainable practices into daily life. He urged students to continue developing practical solutions for pressing environmental challenges. The event concluded with an interactive session, leaving participants inspired to adopt eco-friendly habits and contribute towards a cleaner, greener future.
