Ganderbal, July 17: Amid circulating reports of a fatality caused by the landslide at Rail Pathri along the AmarnathYatra route, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal Khalil Ahmad Poswal has clarified that no pilgrim died as a result of the landslide.

According to SSP Poswal, the landslide was minor, but footage filmed from a close distance gave the false impression of a major incident. He confirmed that a woman pilgrim did lose her life, but her death was unrelated to the landslide.

“She died after being hit by a stone while on the way to the cave,” the SSP explained.

The landslide occurred following two days of continuous heavy rainfall, leading authorities to temporarily suspend the Yatra on both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes as a precaution.

Meanwhile, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has deployed machinery and labourers to clear the debris and restore the route, with the goal of resuming the pilgrimage at the earliest.
