Srinagar, July 15: To enhance the safety and security of pilgrims undertaking the ShriAmarnathJiYatra, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday conducted comprehensive mock drills along the designated Yatra routes in multiple districts across the Kashmir Valley, including Srinagar, Ganderbal, Budgam, Pulwama, Kulgam, and PD Awantipora.
The exercises took place at strategically important locations to evaluate the alertness, preparedness, and coordination among various security agencies deployed for the Yatra. The mock drills simulated multiple scenarios such as standoff fire, attempted fidayeen attacks, IED detection, convoy stoppage, emergency evacuation, crowd control, and disaster situations caused by earthquakes and landslides.
Senior police officials closely supervised the drills to ensure strict adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs), making refinements wherever necessary. Special attention was given to critical areas prone to congestion or heavy footfall to test the efficiency of quick reaction teams and response units.
The drills were conducted smoothly without causing any disruption to the Yatris or the general public. Authorities appreciated the cooperation extended by citizens and pilgrims throughout the exercise.
