JAMMU, June 14: The government is making foolproof security arrangements to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the annual Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to begin on July 3 and conclude on August 9 this year.
As part of the enhanced security measures, CCTV cameras are being installed at transit camps and around the base camps. Additionally, concrete boundary walls are under construction at the Jammu-based transit camps, replacing the earlier chain-link fencing.
“There are two transit camps in Jammu—one at Kathua and another at Samba. Concrete boundary walls are now being built at both locations,” said senior tourism officer Rajesh Raina, while speaking to Rising Kashmir. He added that CCTV surveillance is being implemented at these camps as a security measure to ensure the Yatra is conducted smoothly.
In a significant infrastructure upgrade, the capacity of the Samba transit camp in the Jatwal area is being increased from 100 to 350 pilgrims.
Furthermore, the earlier sheds at these camps are being replaced with concrete halls equipped with air-conditioning. These upgraded facilities are expected to be ready ahead of the Yatra’s commencement.
This will be the first time that Amarnath pilgrims from across India and abroad will be accommodated in AC concrete halls under full CCTV surveillance, marking a major step forward in both comfort and security.
