Srinagar, June 10: The BSC Paramedical students of all the Government Medical Colleges in Jammu and Kashmir have demanded monthly stipend in the UT of J&K during internship.

A delegation of BSC paramedical students said that they want to draw attention of the government to an important issue concerning B.Sc. Paramedical students who have recently requested a monthly stipend from the government.

President J&K Paramedical Students Association, Musa Yousuf said B.Sc. Paramedical students play a crucial role in the healthcare system, particularly in high-stakes environments like as operation theatres, intensive care units, laboratories, diagnostic areas with high radiation exposure and dedicated infectious wards.

The delegation said the students face significant risks, including increased likelihood of infection, exposure to occupational hazards while caring for critically ill and highly infectious patients.

“It is essential to recognize and support the contributions of B.Sc. Paramedical students, as they enhance patient care and ensure smooth operation of healthcare facilities,” Yousuf said.

The delegation said that the National Allied Health Professions has outlined in its curriculum that during internships, stipends should not be less than Rs 20,000 for B.Sc. Paramedical students.

“Our contributions are vital to the healthcare system. We face similar challenges as nursing students and other healthcare professionals,” delegation stated.

The Paramedical Students Association requested the Health Department to initiate the approval process for stipends for B.Sc. Paramedical students to acknowledge their hard work and dedication.

“We believe that investing in our future healthcare professionals is an investment in the health and well-being of our community,” the association said.

Meanwhile, the Paramedical Students Association of GMC Jammu (PSA-GMCJ) has also urged the government to approve a stipend for B.Sc. paramedical students and to fully support the demands of the JK Paramedical Students Association as per the General Secretary of Paramedical Students Association..
