Srinagar, May 25: Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Sunil Sharma on Sunday said India is a peace-loving country, but any threat to its citizens will be dealt with firmly. He was referring to the Indian Army’s Operation Sindoor in response to the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terror attack.
“The entire nation witnessed the courage and valour of the armed forces during the operation,” Sharma said, adding, “India wants peace, but not at the cost of our citizens’ safety.
Participating in the 122nd episode of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat programme in Srinagar, the LoP said the Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives—mostly tourists—was aimed at derailing India’s fast-paced development.
“Our economy is growing rapidly, while Pakistan continues to fall. It cannot digest India’s progress,” he said.
BJP spokesperson and Chairperson of the J&K Waqf Board, Darakhshan Andrabi, in her address, said Operation Sindoor was marked by the spirit of unity and patriotism. “The Tiranga was in everyone’s hands and hearts,” she remarked.
Prime Minister Modi, during his address, lauded the bravery of the armed forces and reaffirmed the country’s collective resolve against terrorism.
Meanwhile, LoP Sunil Sharma called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday and discussed important matters pertaining to the welfare of families affected by Pakistan shelling.
He was accompanied by Sat Sharma, President BJP J&K; Dr Devinder Kumar Manyal, MLA from Ramgarh and Dr Narinder Singh Raina, MLA from R S Pura Jammu South.
