Govt expands de-addiction network with 20 centres in J&K

Over 23,000 drug addicts treated in three years; NGOs play vital role in rehabilitation

Jammu, March 24: The Jammu and Kashmir government has established 20 de-addiction centres across all districts, along with 11 Addiction Treatment Facilities (ATFs) in Kashmir and nine in Jammu, to ensure easier access to treatment for those in need.

The information was shared in the Legislative Assembly on Monday in response to a query by BJP MLA Sham Lal Sharma. Additionally, the government stated that 23 private de-addiction centres are in the process of registration, with 19 located in Jammu division and 4 in Kashmir division.
Treatment cases in past three years (USE THIS BOX IN STORY)
2022 – 9,775 OPD and 306 IPD cases
2023 – 8,700 OPD and 586 IPD cases
2024 – 6,925 OPD and 703 IPD cases
The government said that in addition to government-run facilities, several NGOs have been actively contributing to the fight against drug abuse, including–JK Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses, Himalaya Sewa Sang, National Educational Society and Social Welfare Organisation, J&K Students Welfare Mission, J&K Global Care Network and Helping Hands Charitable Foundation.
