Kathua, March 10: A blood donation camp was organised at Jammu University, Kathua Campus, by LG Electronics in collaboration with the J&K Thalassaemia Welfare Society and Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative on Monday.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty and local residents, all coming together to support the noble cause of voluntary blood donation. The camp aimed to address the persistent shortage of blood in hospitals and promote a culture of regular blood donation among the youth. The donation process, which began at 10:30 AM, was conducted under the supervision of trained medical professionals from GMC Jammu, ensuring a safe, hygienic, and efficient procedure. Donors underwent health screenings, including haemoglobin level tests and blood pressure monitoring, before donation.
Over 90 donors from Kathua Campus and UIET stepped forward, offering vital support to patients suffering from anaemia, thalassaemia, leukaemia, accident-related injuries, and those undergoing critical surgeries. Volunteers from 4 J&K Bn NCC, Kathua Campus, and the Community Service and Social Justice Club, UIET played a crucial role in assisting donors, managing logistics, and spreading awareness about the importance of blood donation. Expressing appreciation, Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Rector, Kathua Campus, highlighted the significance of social responsibility beyond academics, stating that each unit of blood donated represents hope and survival. Dr Rockey Gupta, Principal, UIET, emphasised that small acts of kindness have a profound impact on society and pledged to organise more such events in the future with even greater participation. The event was efficiently managed and directed by Mukteesh Sharma, who underscored the importance of voluntary blood donation in supporting individuals battling thalassaemia and other medical conditions. Lieutenant Amit Sharma, Coordinator of the Blood Donation Camp, reiterated the commitment to making blood donation drives a regular initiative at the campus. The organisers extended their heartfelt gratitude to all donors, volunteers, medical staff, and sponsors for their invaluable contributions. The camp stands as a testament to the power of collective action, compassion, and responsibility, reaffirming Kathua Campus, University of Jammu’s dedication to humanitarian efforts and its commitment to hosting more such impactful events in the future. A dedicated medical team from GMC Jammu ensured the smooth execution of the donation process. The team included Dr Anshu Mahajan (Senior Resident), Sonu (Counsellor), Deepa (Senior Staff Nurse), Renu (Senior Staff Nurse), and Mr Surinder (Multi-Tasking Staff).
