Bandipora, Feb 28: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Bandipora, Nizamuddin Bhat has urged authorities to prioritise public welfare and ensure the efficient management of essential services, particularly uninterrupted electricity and water supply.
Emphasising accountability and transparency in governance, he stressed that the public must receive the services they rightfully deserve without unnecessary delays or bureaucratic hurdles.
Bhat said he spoke to the Chief Engineer of PDD and requested that the electricity connections of poor households not be disconnected during the holy month of Ramadan. He highlighted the struggles of poor labourers during winter, saying many face difficulties in paying their electricity bills due to a lack of work. To provide relief, at least for this month, he suggested allowing easy installment-based payments for defaulters.
The MLA made a special appeal for Chuntawari, Benilipora Aloosa, stressing the urgent need for power restoration in the area, which has been experiencing outages for several days. To address the issue, he directed the Executive Engineer of PDD Bandipora to ensure the immediate restoration of electricity, particularly in view of the holy month.
Bhat condemned what he termed as the politicisation of welfare and essential services. He called for a governance approach that prioritises public concerns over political interests, ensuring that essential services remain accessible to all, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
