Srinagar, Feb 26: The second day of the Srinagar Heritage Festival – “Soun Meeraas”, an initiative of the district administration Srinagar, was marked by a vibrant Shikara rally in the famous Dal Lake on Wednesday.
The event, aimed at celebrating and preserving Kashmir’s unique cultural legacy, saw enthusiastic participation from both locals and tourists, who witnessed the region’s rich traditions come alive on the water. Organised in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), the festival seeks to reconnect the younger generation with Srinagar’s historical and cultural heritage. A key highlight of the day was a live demonstration of Dal Lake’s traditional Floating Market, a nostalgic recreation of a bygone era when local farmers and artisans sold their produce and crafts directly from their boats. The spectacle not only captivated visitors but also served as a testament to Kashmir’s enduring traditions and way of life.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Syed Ahmad Kataria, along with other senior officials from the District Administration and IGNCA, attended the event. The festival continues to draw widespread appreciation, providing an immersive experience into the Valley’s cultural essence while promoting Srinagar’s artistic and historical significance on a broader platform.
