Katra, Feb 15: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha addressed the 10th Convocation Ceremony of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), where he expressed his gratitude to Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar for gracing the occasion and blessing the graduating students. The Lieutenant Governor noted that today’s ceremony would remain a cherished memory for the students, urging them to play an active role in the nation’s development.
“The strength of our nation will be defined by the values, innovation, and knowledge we impart to our youth,” said LG Sinha. He stressed that the youth graduating during the Amrit Kaal have a unique opportunity to shape India’s future and help the country become the world’s largest economy.
He further highlighted the vast opportunities in humanities, arts, science, and technology, encouraging graduates to harness their skills and knowledge to contribute to national growth. LG Sinha pointed out the crucial role of youth in transforming rural areas, calling for dedication and a strong connection to India’s cultural roots. “Our youth must remain rooted in their ancient culture and have faith in their abilities, as well as the wisdom of our traditions,” he said.
Emphasising the need for a revamp in teaching and mentoring systems, the Lieutenant Governor urged a fresh approach to education to seize future opportunities in science and technology. This, he said, would directly impact India’s journey toward becoming a “Viksit Bharat.”
LG Sinha also called upon the teaching community to unlock the full potential of students, transforming educational institutions into powerful instruments for building a prosperous India. He urged teachers to initiate innovative educational programmes and promote critical thinking, creativity, and lifelong learning skills.
The Lieutenant Governor extended his best wishes to the graduates for a bright future and congratulated the female students for their remarkable achievements, leading in the medal tally, Certificates of Distinction, and the prestigious Infosys Foundation Prize.
Meanwhile, Honoris Causa degrees was conferred on Padma Shri Pt. Shiv Dutt Nirmohi, a distinguished writer and historian, and Dr. Ram Sewak Sharma, former CEO of the National Health Authority, in recognition of their contributions to their respective fields.
In his address, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reminded the graduates about the “rapidly evolving world,” highlighting the rapid development of artificial intelligence, climate change, and global competition. “India and the world need ethical, compassionate, and responsible leaders,” he said.
Omar Abdullah emphasised that success is not only about personal milestones but also about overcoming challenges and staying true to one’s principles while uplifting others. “Your degree is not just a piece of paper; it’s the key to making a difference,” he stated, encouraging entrepreneurs, scientists, artists, and leaders to contribute to society and create impactful solutions.
The Chief Minister stressed that failures are not the opposite of success, but part of the journey. “The road ahead may not always be easy, but failures are simply stepping stones toward success,” he remarked.
