Srinagar, Feb 10: Cardiac patients across southern Kashmir will get a major relief as GMC Anantnag prepares to launch cath lab services at its associated hospital, MMABM.
Last week, the medical college held an important meeting on cath lab services. At the meeting, it was decided that Dr Syed Maqbool, Assistant Professor, Cardiology will be Incharge of Cardiology Speciality in the associated hospital for better patient care.
Officials who attended the meeting said that part of the surgical casualty of the associated hospital shall be utilized for cardiology-related procedures.
They said a requisition for manpower and other requirements to run cardiology speciality will be given by Incharge Cardiology, so that same can be perused, timely.
They stated that the Incharge of Cardiology will submit a requisition for manpower and other requirements to run the specialty, ensuring timely follow-up.
An official stated that the medical college has received a turnkey cath lab system (a complete cardiac catheterization laboratory) of Rs 20 crore, which is set to be inaugurated by the end of February.
“South Kashmir is the huge populated area of whole Jammu and Kashmir and caters to many districts. The patients of different areas of will get a major relief and it will be a big achievement,” he said.
Notably, GMC Anantnag is the only peripheral medical college in India and in among the eight new medical colleges J&K that will install the cath lab service for its patients.
Officials at GMC Anantnag said it has improved its surgical and cardiac care services and is planning several other upgrades to provide relief to patients in South Kashmir, who previously had to travel to Srinagar for treatment.
“We have excellent team of cardiologists. Now patients from Srinagar are coming here. I saw a patient coming to Anantnag in search of three cardiologists,” said a doctor.
Currently, Kashmir has two cath labs—one at SKIMS Soura and another at GMC Srinagar. With the addition of this much-needed facility, GMC Anantnag will become the third center in the valley to offer cath lab services.
Earlier, GMC Anantnag performed five cases of LBB-A Pacings in a single day which is the highest number of LBB-A cardiac pacings performed in J&K in a single day.
In the previous, year, the medical college became the only institution in the world to perform 50 cases of Left Bundle Branch Area (LBBA) Pacing under a simple C-arm X-ray machine, all within just three months and without specialized Electrophysiology (EP) lab backup.
The cardiology team said that the facility is expected to enhance healthcare services in southern Kashmir significantly and thanked Principal GMC Anantnag for supporting all departments for their growth.
