Pulwama, Feb 07: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK)/Extension Training Centre (ETC) Pulwama, in collaboration with the Division of Vegetable Science, SKUAST-Kashmir, organised an Awareness and Seed Distribution Program at Machihama Zarihar, a tribal area.
The event was conducted under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) of AICRP (Potato) and aimed at promoting quality potato seed production among tribal farmers.
During the event, 100 beneficiaries received high-quality potato seeds and other essential agricultural inputs to enhance productivity and income generation. Dr Syed Faheema Mushtaq, the Principal Investigator of the project, delivered a lecture on potato seed production and its potential to improve farmers’ livelihoods. She emphasised the role of high-yielding varieties in boosting potato cultivation in the region.
Dr Syed Shujat Hussain highlighted the importance of organic potato farming, stressing the need for organic inputs to improve soil health and crop sustainability. Dr Javeed Ahmad Mugloo, Head of KVK Pulwama, provided an overview of potato cultivation in the temperate conditions of Kashmir and discussed how KVK is helping farmers adopt the latest agricultural technologies.
The event successfully concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Khursheed Hussain, the Co-Principal Investigator of the project. The initiative was a significant step in empowering tribal farmers by providing them with quality inputs and knowledge about advanced potato cultivation techniques.
