Jammu, Feb 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) railway station in Katra, Jammu region, as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The project, costing Rs 40 crore, aims to enhance existing facilities and introduce new amenities for passengers. He also laid the foundation stone of a project for an overbridge at Vijaypur Railway Station.
Addressing the occasion, PM Modi highlighted the swift pace and scale of India’s development endeavors, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to realizing ambitious goals. He remarked, “Today’s programme is a symbol of the new work culture of New India.”
Under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme, PM Modi also initiated the redevelopment of 553 railway stations across the nation, totaling more than Rs 19,000 crore in investment. Alongside Katra, Udhampur, Jammu, and Budgam railway stations are slated for redevelopment under this scheme, with three located in the Jammu region.
PM Modi emphasized the significant progress made in infrastructure projects, citing the modernization of 500 railway stations across the country. During the event, he inaugurated and dedicated around 2000 railway infrastructure projects worth over Rs. 41,000 crores via video conferencing, with participation from numerous locations across the nation.
Highlighting the efficient utilization of funds and the absence of corruption, PM Modi underscored the redirection of saved resources towards enhancing railway connectivity and infrastructure development. He credited these efforts with doubling the speed of laying new lines, expanding railway networks to remote areas like Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast, and advancing the development of a dedicated freight corridor spanning 2,500 kilometers.

In a tweet, the Lt Governor said: “Grateful to Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji for the redevelopment of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Railway Station under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and a project for overbridge at Vijaypur Railway Station. It involves comprehensive development of Katra Station.
The redevelopment project will upgrade façade,12 Meter wide FoB connecting all platforms, station building extension to accommodate better passenger, pilgrim facilities, modern & state of art lifts & escalators connecting FoBs to platforms & modular design for future extension.”.
