Srinagar, Jan 07: In a significant development aimed at enhancing the employability and skillsets of students, Ashaq Hussain Dar, Director of NIELIT (Deemed to be University), Tuesday paid a visit to IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar for a courtesy meeting with Dr. A.H. Rizvi, Regional Director, IGNOU.
The meeting focused on exploring collaboration between the two institutions to provide quality education, improve job prospects and integrate IGNOU students into various government initiatives run by NIELIT.
During the discussions, Ashaq Hussain Dar highlighted several skill development programs offered by NIELIT, including certifications in digital literacy, cyber security, blockchain, drone technology, and software development. These programs are designed to complement the academic curriculum offered by IGNOU, particularly in IT, electronics, and computer science.
The meeting also emphasized NIELIT’s internship and placement schemes, which offer paid opportunities and access to industry partnerships. These initiatives aim to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements, providing IGNOU students with practical exposure and employability skills.

Another key area of focus was entrepreneurship. Ashaq proposed mentorship and training programs for IGNOU students interested in launching startups in the IT and electronics sectors. These programs would provide aspiring entrepreneurs with the tools and knowledge needed to succeed in the competitive market. Additionally, the two institutions discussed potential research collaborations in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT). This partnership would aim to foster innovation and encourage students to engage in cutting-edge research.
Dr. Rizvi invited Ashaq to become a key member of IGNOU’s placement cell, enhancing placement drives and providing more opportunities for IGNOU learners. In return, Ashaq extended an invitation to computer science students from IGNOU to participate in NIELIT-organized placement drives.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides agreeing to work towards a formal framework for collaboration. This initiative is expected to benefit IGNOU learners significantly, providing them with access to NIELIT’s skill development programs, research opportunities, and job placement initiatives. This partnership is poised to empower students by equipping them with the skills and resources necessary to excel in today’s dynamic job market.
