Pulwama: The Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) has registered a case to investigate the death of an elderly woman at her son-in-law’s house in Gudoora village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
According to the police, a written complaint was filed by Rafeeqa Bano, daughter of the deceased, Khurshi Begum, a resident of Looswani village of Pulwama.
In her complaint, Rafeeqa accused her husband, Mohammad Aslam Mir of Gudoora, of causing her mother’s death.
Police said that based on the complaint, an FIR (No. 257/2024) has been registered at police station Pulwama under relevant sections of the law.
“Investigation into the case is underway,” the police said.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday evening around 6:00 PM, when Khurshi Begum, wife of Abul Rehman Dar of Looswani village, was brought dead to the district hospital in Pulwama.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the elderly woman was at her daughter’s house in Gudoora when an argument broke out between Rafeeqa Bano and her husband, Mohammad Aslam Mir. “During the altercation, the deceased intervened and was reportedly pushed by Mohammad Aslam Mir, which led to her collapse,” police said.
Earlier, the deceased’s daughter told media in Pulwama that the quarrel with her husband began over her disapproval of his habit of keeping pigeons, which she claimed made a room in their house dirty.
“He was furious, physically assaulted me, and then pushed my mother, who fell to the ground,” she alleged.
She added that her mother’s condition deteriorated, and she was rushed to the district hospital in Pulwama, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
