Kulgam, Jan 16: In a proactive move against drug peddling, District Police Kulgam seized an under-construction house on 10 marla of land belonging to a notorious drug peddler, Barkatullah Mir. The action marks the second seizure within a 24-hour period as part of the ongoing anti-drug initiative.
According to a police spokesperson, the property, located in Buchroo, Kulgam, was identified as illegally acquired during the course of an investigation. Barkatullah Mir, son of Mohd Abdullah Mir, is known for his involvement in drug-related activities and is implicated in a case FIR number 69/2021 of Police Station Kulgam and FIR number 03/2018 of Police Station Yaripora, he said.
“The property has been seized under section 68-F(2) of the NDPS Act 1985, indicating a firm stance against those involved in illicit drug trafficking,” the spokesperson said, adding, “The police are actively taking measures to combat the drug menace and are targeting properties acquired through illegal means by drug peddlers.”
The seizure of properties is part of broader efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of the community by curbing the influence of drug-related crimes, the police spokesperson said.
