Srinagar, Nov 29: Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, a pioneer in cutting-edge medical care, on Friday brought attention to a remarkable story of an acid attack survivor from Srinagar whose life was changed through advanced surgical expertise and compassionate care.
This inspiring narrative showcased the hospital’s commitment to restoring not just physical well-being but also dignity and hope for survivors of trauma.
Dr. Shahin Nooreyezdan, Senior Consultant in Cosmetic, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in a press conference shared the survivor’s medical journey and the critical role played in her recovery.
The survivor, a young woman from Srinagar, was attacked with acid in January 2013, resulting in severe burns on the left side of her face, including the periorbital region, eyelids, and the dorsum of her right hand.
Dr. Shahin said after initial treatment at GMC Srinagar, she was referred by Dr. Sameer Kaul, Apollo Hospitals for treatment by Dr. Shahin.
“Over the course of her treatment, the hospital expert team successfully performed complex reconstructive surgeries, highlighting their unparalleled expertise in restoring both form and function for such challenging cases,” he said.
The patient underwent a comprehensive reconstructive approach utilizing cutting-edge techniques and state-of-the-art facilities. A notable aspect of their treatment involved Cryolipolysis, an innovative method traditionally employed for fat reduction but increasingly recognized for its potential in tissue repair and inflammation reduction.
“In this case, Cryolipolysis was applied to aid in scar tissue management and promote healing, offering a novel approach to burn care. Additionally, Cryotherapy for Scars, Facial Recontouring, Surgical Facelift, and Necklift were integral components of the treatment plan,” he said.
Dr. Shahin said throughout the patient’s journey, the hospital expert team successfully executed complex reconstructive surgeries, demonstrating their exceptional expertise in restoring both aesthetic appearance and functional capabilities of affected areas.
At the presser, the importance of awareness about acid attack survivors, the psychological and physical scars they endure, and need for care to help them rebuild their lives was discussed.
Dr. Shahin said, “Our role goes beyond just treating physical injuries; it’s about restoring dignity, confidence, and hope. Each survivor we treat embodies extraordinary strength, and we are committed to helping them reclaim their lives through the latest advancements in plastic and reconstructive surgery.”
