Srinagar, Nov 20: A high-level delegation of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday visited Rainawari to assess the extensive damage caused by a devastating fire that left several families displaced and homeless.
The delegation, led by senior party leader Khursheed Alam, included prominent leaders including Mohit Bhan, Arif Laigroo, Sheikh Saba, Abdul Qayoom Bhat, Dr Ali Mohammad, Aman Zargar and others, the party said in a statement issued here.
During their visit, the delegation, at the instructions of the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, met the affected families and assured them of the party’s full support during this difficult time. The leaders called for urgent relief measures to address the pressing challenges faced by the victims, particularly with the harsh winter approaching.
Recognising the critical situation, the party has assigned the local leadership the responsibility to organise and distribute relief material, including essential food supplies, medicines and winter clothing, to the displaced families.
Speaking on the occasion, Khursheed Alam said, “PDP is committed to standing with the people in times of crisis. Our immediate focus is on providing basic necessities to those who have lost everything in this tragic incident.”
The party also appealed to the government to step in and extend all possible humanitarian assistance to the affected families. “We urge the administration to take swift and effective measures to help the victims rebuild their lives. The government must ensure timely rehabilitation and provide the necessary resources to rebuild homes and livelihoods,” the delegation said.
Mehbooba Mufti, in her message, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to providing relief and support to the victims. She called upon the government and civil society to come together to support the affected families.
