Srinagar, Nov 14: On Children’s Day, a massive fire broke out in a Muslim public high school in Rajbagh, Srinagar on Thursday leading to panic among parents, students, and the locals.
As per reports, the blaze, which originated from the rooftop of the school building, caused widespread distress among students and staff. However, all students, teachers, and non-faculty members were evacuated safely.
Eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos as the fire erupted, with children becoming panicked. Amidst the fire, teachers bravely led the evacuation, assisted by local residents and the Fire and Emergency Department, ensuring all students were rescued without harm.
An official from the Fire and Emergency Department told Rising Kashmir that they responded immediately upon receiving the alert. “As soon as we got the call, we reached the spot without delay and managed to control the flames,” the official said. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, with initial reports pointing to a potential short circuit. Sadly, a firefighter, identified as Muhammad Shafi Baba, was injured during the operation.
The incident caused significant panic in the area, with anxious parents rushing to the school to ensure their children’s safety. This fire adds to a growing list of such incidents in the city, which has faced numerous fire-related damages over recent years.
Fire department officials highlighted that many structures lack proper fire safety equipment, including extinguishers, which could help control such outbreaks. Although it remains uncertain if extinguishers were available at the school, the department urged all building owners to prioritize fire safety measures.
