Jammu, Jan 17: Several crucial projects undertaken by the Central government in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir have reached completion but are yet to be officially dedicated to the people due to the unavailability of VIPs for their inauguration.
The AIIMS project in Vijaipur, Jammu, is nearing completion, with over 95% of the construction work done, AIIMS Director Shakti Gupta told Rising Kashmir.
Similarly, a fleet of 75 e-buses stationed near the Amarnath Yatra base camp at Bhagwati Nagar has been awaiting inauguration for approximately two months. Originally scheduled to be inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha, the event was postponed due to a security encounter with terrorists in Rajouri. A subsequent attempt by Union Home Minister Amit Shah was also thwarted by inclement weather.
Shah was supposed to inaugurate not only the e-buses but also other completed development projects totalling around 1374 crores in UT during his visit earlier this month.
“With both attempts deferred, there is now an expectation that either Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit J&K by or before February 10 to inaugurate the completed projects,” Ashish Anand, the General Manager of Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL), said.
Projects such as the International Yoga Center at Mantalai, which is nearly 99% complete, and Jammu’s longest flyover, spanning 5.5 km from Bhagwati Nagar to Muthi, have also not been inaugurated. While the flyover is open for vehicular movement, it lacks an official inauguration, and there is no accompanying nameplate.
The Narwal Mandi upgradation project, completed months ago, also awaits its inauguration ceremony.
