Jammu, Oct 12: After twenty-two years, there would be no Deputy Chief Minister in the National Conference (NC) and Congress coalition government to be formed in the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
NC’s coalition partner got just one seat from Jammu region i.e Rajouri, while it secured 5 seats from Kashmir region in the recently concluded Assembly elections in J&K.
Highly placed sources in Congress said that there is no big name in the grand old party from Jammu region who made it to the Assembly. They said Congress high command has also not insisted on its claim for the Deputy Chief Minister post in the new coalition government in J&K.
In 2002, Mangat Ram Sharma of the Congress was the Deputy Chief Minister, in 2008, Muzaffar Hussain Baigh was the Deputy Chief Minister, and in 2014, Dr Nirmal Singh of the BJP was the Deputy Chief Minister in PDP-BJP coalition government.
Sources further said some of its newly elected members will be given ministerial berths in the new government.
