Ganderbal, Sept 24: Central University of Kashmir organized a one-day workshop on “Recycling for a Sustainable Future” as part of the ongoing national campaign and Swachhata Hi Seva – 2024 under Swabhav Swachhata-Sanskaar Swachhata programme.
The event was conducted by National Service Scheme (NSS) wing at varsity’s Green Campus, besides raising awareness, it aimed at promoting the sustainable practices through recycling.
In a welcome address, Dr Shabir Ahmed Ahanger, NSS unit coordinator emphasized the importance of environmental responsibility. He highlighted how pollution can be mitigated through recycling efforts, stressing that sustainability is the key to protecting our environment
Dr Kaukab Azeem, Chairman of the program and Head, Department of Physical Education also delivered an impactful address that not only emphasized the urgent need for improved waste systems but also inspired attendees to adopt innovative solutions for a cleaner, sustainable future.
NSS Programme Officer Dr Shahnaz Akhtar during her address stressed importance of the theme Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskaar Swachhata and its strong relevance to the workshop and focus on recycling. She elaborated on how cultivating cleanliness as a habit and value aligns seamlessly with sustainable practices like recycling, reinforcing the need for responsible waste management in everyday life.
Akhtar also highlighted the importance of effective recycling processes, and proper waste segregation to ensure the efficient reuse of materials besides, the environmental and economic benefits of recycling and up cycling.
Similarly, Dr Hilal Ahmad Najar, NSS Programme Officer also shared his perspective on the pressing environmental issues related to waste management.
On the occasion, Dr Harpal Singh, NSS programme Officer was also presented on the occasion. The workshop was moderated by Dr. Mohammad Muzamil Shah.
The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr Imtiyaz Ahmad Dar, NSS-Programme Officer, expressing gratitude to all participants and keynote speaker for their valuable contributions to make this event a success.
Meanwhile, vice chancellor of the varsity Prof A.Ravinder Nath praised the initiative, saying Environmental Sustainability is a global challenge and the workshops like play a crucial role in empowering our students to become change-makers. “I applaud the efforts of the NSS team and the participating students for their commitment to a cleaner, greener future”.
