• All preparations completed: BJP Spokesman
Srinagar, Sept 18: Security has been significantly increased across Srinagar and surrounding areas in preparation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on September 19. The PM is scheduled to address a major party rally at Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium.
According to a police officer at Police Headquarters, security measures have been bolstered as part of a comprehensive plan for the PM’s visit. “A high-level meeting on security arrangements was held, with various agencies involved in devising and implementing specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs),” he stated.
Additional police and paramilitary forces have been stationed at key locations, including along Airport Road leading to SK Stadium. The enhanced security includes the installation of CCTV surveillance, establishment of checkpoints, and implementation of rigorous frisking procedures.
Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel will be deployed throughout the city to monitor and respond to any suspicious activities. Jammu and Kashmir Police Commandos, alongside Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) members, will secure the area around SK Stadium to prevent any potential disruptions.
“Checkpoints and surveillance will continue along major highways in Srinagar and its vicinity as a precautionary measure,” the officer added. Special teams have been assigned to ensure alertness and readiness.
BJP Spokesman for Jammu and Kashmir, Altaf Thakur, indicated that over 30,000 BJP supporters are expected at the rally. “All preparations for the event have been completed,” he said. Thakur emphasized that the rally would be historic, with attendees from various regions of Kashmir anticipated to gather in large numbers.
Thakur also highlighted the enthusiasm among local residents, noting a shift in sentiment towards the BJP and Prime Minister Modi. “The people, including the poor, women, and elderly, now have strong faith in PM Modi,” Thakur asserted.
PM Modi is set to arrive in Srinagar at 12 PM on Thursday, with party leaders scheduled to welcome him at the Srinagar International Airport at 11:30 AM. Preparations include decorating roads and streets with BJP flags in anticipation of the PM’s visit.
This visit follows PM Modi’s recent rally in Doda on September 14. The current assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are the first since the abrogation of Article 370. The region comprises 90 Assembly constituencies, including 7 reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and 9 for Scheduled Tribes (STs). As per the Election Commission of India, there are approximately 8.8 million eligible voters in Jammu and Kashmir.
