Anantnag, Aug 26: With just one day left for filing nomination papers, only 14 nominations have been received across 24 Assembly constituencies for Phase first of the elections scheduled for September 18, according to details available on the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) website.
Two candidates from Bhaderwah have filed their nominations: Varinder Kumar Razdan, an independent candidate, and Ashok Kumar Kachroo from the Jammu and Kashmir All Alliance Democratic Party. From the Banihal constituency, Imtiyaz Ahmad Shan of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Suteesh Kumar, an independent candidate from Ramban, have submitted their papers.
In Doda, Khalid Najib Shuarwardy from the J&K National Conference and Tanveer Hussain of the J&K Alliance Democratic Party have filed nominations. In Anantnag, Mehboob Beg of the PDP has submitted his papers. Mohammad Sartaj Madni of the PDP has filed his nomination from Devsar, and Nazir Ahmad Laway of the J&K Peoples Conference has filed from Kulgam constituency.
In D. H. Pora, Abdul Majeed Padder of the J&K Apni Party and Sakeena Masood (Sakeena Itoo) of the National Conference have filed their nominations. From the Pampore constituency, Mohammad Altaf Mir of the J&K Apni Party has filed his papers, while Asif Nabi Dar, an independent candidate, has filed from the Pulwama Assembly constituency.
However, many political leaders, nominated by various parties, are expected to submit their nominations today. Earlier, the Congress and National Conference had not declared their alliance candidates, leading to political curiosity for the Phase first of assembly elections in J&K.
