RAJOURI, JAN 21: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today visited Badhaal village to meet the families of 17 individuals who tragically lost their lives in an incident that has deeply affected three local families.
Expressing his profound sorrow, the Chief Minister conveyed his condolences and assured the grieving families that his government would extend full support and assistance during this difficult time. He was accompanied by Cabinet Minister Javed Rana and MLA Budhal Javed Iqbal Choudhary during the visit.
In his address, the Chief Minister emphasised that the government’s primary focus is to prevent such incidents from recurring. “We are committed to taking immediate action to prevent the spate of tragic deaths and to ensure the safety of our people,” he said. He also confirmed that a detailed investigation is already underway to determine the cause of the tragedy.
“The civil administration and the health department are working on the issue, while the police have set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the incident. A central team has also been deployed and is actively working to uncover the reasons behind this devastating loss of life,” he added.
During the visit, MLA Budhal Javed Iqbal Choudhary presented a proposal for compensation to the affected families. The Chief Minister assured that the proposal is under active consideration and promised timely action.
The Chief Minister directed Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma, to provide all necessary support to the bereaved families. He further reassured the public that the results of the investigation would be made public and that appropriate measures would be taken based on the findings.
The Chief Minister urged political restraint and called on all parties to allow the concerned authorities to carry out their duties without interference. “Identifying the causes of these tragic deaths is our utmost priority, and we are committed to preventing such incidents in the future,” he added.
