Srinagar, Aug 04: People’s Conference Senior Vice President and former minister, Abdul Gani Vakil on Sunday expressed concerns about the delay in assembly elections in J&K. He accused the Central government of deliberately postponing the elections.
“This delay leaves the people of J&K at the mercy of officers, which goes against democratic values,” he said while speaking at a party worker’s convention in Seelu and Doabgah Rafiabad.
He highlighted the government’s “failure” to address public issues and emphasized the need for J&K residents to elect their own government.
Vakil warned that the delay undermines the democratic fabric of the region and conveys that the people’s voices and aspirations are secondary. “Postponing the elections will exacerbate political and social uncertainties in the region,” he said.
The PC leader also criticized the LG government for its “failures on multiple fronts”, including the worsening security scenario and lack of accountability.
“The people of J&K have waited long enough and it is time to affirm their faith in democracy by allowing them to choose their own representatives. This will enable more effective addressing of local issues, promote development, and restore trust in the democratic process,” he said.
Delaying assembly elections in J&K will be injustice: Vakil
