Jammu, March 08: The Jammu and Kashmir government has allotted land to 498 landless beneficiaries under the PMAY-G scheme across the Union Territory, with the highest number of allotments in Bandipora district, according to a government response in the Assembly.
M.Y. Tarigami had asked a starred question seeking details about the allotment of land to landless families in J&K, with a special reference to Kulgam district.
In a written response, the Minister in charge of the Department of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj said, “Families without land of their own are being provided 5 marlas of land for the construction of residential houses under PMAY. The land is allotted subject to verification by the Revenue Department.”

Providing a district-wise breakdown of land allotments under the PMAY-G scheme, the response highlighted that the highest number of beneficiaries were in Bandipora (114), followed by Doda (57), Baramulla and Kishtwar (55 each), Rajouri (48), Jammu (38), and Anantnag (28). Other districts had fewer than 25 beneficiaries, while Budgam, Ramban, and Shopian recorded zero allotments.
Regarding Kulgam district, the government stated that eight beneficiaries have been allotted land: four in D.H. Pora block, two in Kulgam, and one each in Behibagh and Qaimoh blocks.
When asked whether extended families from landless backgrounds would be considered for land allotment, the minister responded, “Extended families from landless backgrounds may be considered for allotment, subject to eligibility and the guidelines of the scheme issued from time to time.”
On the implementation status of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 in J&K, the government stated, “The Act is under implementation in the UT, and compensation is determined as per the provisions contained in Section 27 and Sub-section (2) of Section 30 of the said Act.”
Besides, the government revealed that 2,727 applications had been rejected by the Revenue Department, while 442 cases were still under consideration. Moreover, 3,673 landless beneficiaries under the Awaas Plus category of PMAY-G have submitted details.
