342 liquor bottles, 100 mobile phones recovered from pit in Shopian

Shopian, Aug 14: Authorities in Shopian on Thursday recovered a huge consignment of liquor and mobile phones after receiving a tip-off about the items being dumped in pits.Acting on specific inputs, a team of the Revenue Department, led by Tehsildar Shopian, Anjum Bashir Khan, conducted a search in the Ramiara area near DIET Shopian, an official. “During the operation, we recovered more than 342 bottles of liquor, including rum, beer, and whiskey, allegedly being sold illegally and concealed in underground pits,” Tehsildar Khan said.Besides liquor bottles, over 100 mobile phones were also seized from the spot, he added. Tehsildar said the police were immediately informed to take custody of the recovered material and initiate action under the law.“The liquor was concealed in underground pits, from where it was apparently being sold illegally. It was recovered after the pits were dug open,” Khan said.
