Srinagar, Apr 26: A total of 29 candidates have been given the green light to contest for the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat after the completion of the scrutiny process, with the nomination of 10 candidates having been rejected.
As per the official communication, the scrutiny process for nomination papers submitted by candidates for the Srinagar Lok Sabha Seat, as per the Election schedule issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the Lok Sabha Elections-2024, was conducted on Friday at the Office of the Returning Officer 02-Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency, DC Office Complex Srinagar.
Out of the 39 nomination papers received, Returning Officer Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat found 29 nominations valid, in accordance with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.
The accepted candidates include Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi from Jammu Kashmir National Conference, Mohammad Ashraf Mir from J&K Apni Party, Waheed ur Rehman Parra from Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party, Amir Ahmad Bhat from Democratic Progressive Azad Party, and others, it added.
The nomination papers of independent candidates such as Sheeban Ashahi, Nissar Ahmad Ahangar, Mirza Sajad Hussain Beigh, and others were also found valid and accepted. However, 10 candidates had their nominations rejected as their papers were found invalid during scrutiny.
The scrutiny process was conducted in the presence of the General Observer for 02-Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency, Mukul Kumar, Contesting Candidates, and their proposers.
As per the Election Notification, candidates have the option to withdraw their nominations before April 29, 2024, at 03:00 pm in the Office of the Returning Officer 02-Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency.
The 02-Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency is set for Elections in the 4th phase of General Lok Sabha Elections-2024 on May 13, 2024.
