Shopian, Nov 27: Twenty vehicles were fined and two blacklisted for various traffic violations in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday, officials said.
An official said that following the directions of Deputy Commissioner Fazlul Haseeb, Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Shakil Bhat started a crackdown on traffic offenders to ensure strict adherence to traffic regulations in the district.
He said the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) in Shopian conducted a thorough checking drive to address overloading and improper parking issues. The team, led by ARTO, issued fines to 20 vehicles for traffic violations under the Motor Vehicle Act, while two vehicles were blacklisted.
“We conducted checks in multiple public areas, including Hospital Road, to clear roads of improperly parked vehicles. Several vehicles were fined on the spot,” he said.
ARTO Shopian said they have intensified operations and checkpoints on Mughal Road and Hospital Road to identify and penalize those disregarding traffic rules. He said these measures aim to foster awareness and encourage responsible driving habits.
“Alongside imposing penalties, we are implementing a vehicle blacklisting system to discourage recurrent offences. Vehicles involved in severe or multiple violations will face restrictions on public road use,” he said.
He also warned the vehicle operators to strictly comply with the Act’s provisions, warning of legal consequences for non-compliance with the Motor Vehicles Act.
