Jammu, Nov 27: The Income Tax Department conducted two major programs in Poonch and SKPA, Udhampur, as part of their Mulaqat series. The programs were aimed at educating various segments, including businessmen, police trainees, and other officials on different aspects of taxation and compliance.
Outreach Programme in Poonch
ITO, Katra Vijay Chaudhary spearheaded an outreach program in Poonch on November 23. The event, held at the PWD Dak Bungalow, saw significant attendance from District Development Officers (DDOs) and local businessmen. Topics covered included the roles and responsibilities of DDOs, erroneous deductions under Chapter VIA for refund claims, consequences of such errors, and presumptive tax schemes for small businesses. The program also addressed queries related to the new tax regime, faceless assessments and appeals, and the criteria for scrutiny and reassessments.
Outreach Programme in SKPA, Udhampur
Joint Commissioner Srinagar Range, Rahul Padha and ITO Udhampur M.L. Dogra conducted another successful outreach program in Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA), Udhampur, on November 24. The program focused on providing a panoramic view of India’s taxation system, emphasizing the need and importance of taxation, and addressing issues related to bogus refund claims. The program was attended by trainee police officers, faculty members, and administrative staff of SKPA. Key topics covered included the overview and structure of the Income Tax Department, the role of DDOs in tax administration for salaried individuals, and the importance of filing accurate income tax returns.
Principal Commissioner of Income Tax J&K and Ladakh, M P Singh, said, “These outreach programs mark the department’s commitment to spreading tax awareness and education among diverse segments of the community. With a total of 24 outreach programs conducted in Jammu & Kashmir this year, the department has covered various districts, towns, schools, colleges, hospitals, banks, and institutions.”
“So far, the department has covered districts of Kathua, Reasi, Udhampur, Jammu, Rajouri, Poonch, Kulgam, Shopian, Kupwara and Srinagar besides several other major towns like Katra and Vijaypur. It has also covered several schools, colleges, hospitals, banks, CRPF, CISF and other institutions,” he added.
