Srinagar, Mar 06: National Conference (NC) on Thursday condemned the remarks made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and LoP, Sunil Sharma, saying the “supreme sacrifice of martyrs” paved the way for democracy in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a joint statement issued from party headquarters Nawa e Subah, NC’s provincial president Showkat Mir and senior leader Choudhary Mohammad Ramzaan denounced the remarks saying, “The day has emblematic importance for the people of Jammu and Kashmir as it marked the launch of widespread people’s agitation for the restoration of their due human rights.”
The NC leaders demanded an unconditional apology from Sharma and asked him to maintain the decorum of the post he was holding.
“The brave men who laid their lives on the 13th of July 1931 belonged to a generation of wisdom and vision. They saw in darkness and despair a vision for the forthcoming generations and envisioned a society free from bondage, discrimination and oppression,” the leaders said, adding, “July 13, 1931, is the day of the assertion of Jammu & Kashmir’s identity and rights of its people.”
