One of the defining features of the 9 year brilliant governance of the esteemed Narendra Modi lead Government has been to improve the sanitation parameters of India by leaps and bounds. One of the important milestones achieved in this context is the compact toilet system of India. It is a globally recognized fact that Proper sanitation facilities (for example, toilets and latrines) promote health because they allow people to dispose of their waste appropriately, preventing contamination of their environment and reducing risk to themselves and their neighbors.

The BJP dispensation at the Centre under the visionary leadership of Narendra Modi Government has built crores of toilets across the country to promote cleanliness and prevent ordinary Indian citizens from falling prey to various diseases caused by unhygienic conditions. The statistics are proudly laying out the realities.

About 10.9 crore (109 million) individual household latrines (IHHLs) have been constructed in rural India since the launch of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's flagship Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) [SBM(G)] in October 2014 with the main aim to make the rural areas of the country open defecation free (ODF).

As per the results of National Annual Rural Sanitation Survey (NARSS) 2019-20, 99.6% of the households who had access to toilets, had availability of water, and 95.2% of rural population who had access to a toilet, were using it. The presence of children in schools has also increased due to the construction of toilets or “Izzat Ghar” and the drop-out rate has declined significantly. It was PM Modi who first promoted the idea that having a toilet in the house of the poor means ensuring a dignified life to them. With initiatives like 'Nal Se Jal', the Union government ensured that millions of households get access to clean drinking water.

Toilets have been constructed throughout the length and breadth of the country. Among the states, Uttar Pradesh build over 2.22 crore rural toilets while Bihar constructed over 1.22 crore toilets in rural households. The individual states report the number of toilets were constructed in rural areas through an online integrated management information system (IMIS) of SBM. Gone are those days when India had to face humiliation of not having proper access to toilets to crores of population, and now due to the concrete and historic efforts of Modi Government toilets are present in every nook and corner of India.

The open defecation which used to be shame is almost over. The building of such huge and compact toilets system is the worth lauding achievement of Modi Government. It is noteworthy that amid BJP celebrating the 9th year of the Modi-led NDA Government’s ruling at the Centre, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, on May 29 in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad, recalled the facilities that were provided to the poor people in the country under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Counting the growth, the Sports Minister said that the PM gave 3.5 crore pakka houses to the poor people in the span of 9 years, whereas toilet facilities were also provided to 12 crore families in the last 4 years.

Without doubt the toilet system created under the Modi Government has given all the reasons for nation of India to be happy with.
