74th Republic Day: IG CRPF declares open distribution drive under Madadgaar helpline

‘74 families to be provided livelihood assistance’

Srinagar, Jan 26: Inspector General Kashmir, Ops Sector, CRPF M S Bhatia on Wednesday declared open a distribution drive to commemorate the 74th year of the Republic. In the drive, 74 sewing machines will be distributed at five locations across J&K to skilled individuals, including widows, orphan girls and skilled youth, to assist them in supporting their families. 
A CRPF spokesperson said under the guidance of M S Bhatia, the distribution drive will be carried out at Sopore, Srinagar, Pulwama, Anantnag and Doda by CRPF Units deployed in these areas. These beneficiaries had approached CRPF Madadgaar Helpline on its toll-free no 14411 and requested help in earning a livelihood, he said. 
CRPF Madadgaar Helpline was established on 16 June 2017 and has handled more than 9.5 lakh calls besides providing assistance to more than 37500 families across Jammu & Kashmir. 
“The help provided by Madadgaar Helpline includes medical assistance (medicines, surgeries, doctor consultations, ambulance, etc) to 6636 families, 1141pints blood donated to patients in emergency, 142cases of prosthetic implants & wheelchairs, etc to disabled and 267 skilled youth provided assistance to set up their own business,” the spokesperson said. “Apart from it, more than 500 students provided assistance with books for competitive exams, stationery items, scholarships, sponsorships for tournaments, etc. Around 450 women provided assistance in cases of domestic violence and eve-teasing.” 
The helpline has provided assistance to more than 3000 families during natural calamities, and harsh weather and helped in accessing benefits under various government schemes. “It has provided food and ration assistance to 9413 families, more than 10000 cases of assistance to the public during the COVID-19 pandemic and over 3000 cases of assistance to yatris and tourists,” he said.
