Kulgam, June 22: In a bid to address the growing concerns of drug addiction plaguing society, the J&K Yateem Foundation organized a thought-provoking seminar on “Social Evils and Our Responsibilities” at the prestigious Baitul Hilal Chawalgam Kulgam. The event witnessed prominent speakers shedding light on the menace of drug addiction and emphasizing the collective responsibility to eradicate it from the region.
Distinguished guests and speakers at the seminar presented valuable insights and proposed comprehensive strategies to combat the drug epidemic. The esteemed presence of former Chief Justice of J&K High Court and Ladakh, Justice (R) Ali Mohammad Magray, added great weight to the discussions. In his presidential address, Justice Magray passionately called for unified efforts to eliminate the destructive influence of drugs in the J&K Union Territory. He urged citizens to be vigilant at the grassroots level, identifying and confronting antisocial elements who aim to dismantle the very fabric of our society through drug-related activities.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Vikar Geeri, the guest of honor, provided an overview of the measures undertaken by the district administration to tackle the drug mafia effectively. He emphasized the importance of comprehensive rehabilitation programs to provide proper treatment and support to individuals struggling with drug addiction.
The event commenced with a warm welcome address by former Chairman of Yateem Foundation, Mohammad Ahsan Rather. He expressed the organization’s commitment to creating a society free from all social evils, particularly highlighting the urgency of combating drug addiction. Mohammad Rafiq Lone, the current Chairman, expressed gratitude in a vote of thanks and assured the administration of the foundation’s dedication to leading the way in rehabilitating drug addiction victims.
A live interactive session was conducted by Dr. Umar Mukhtar, the incharge of DTF Pulwama, engaging the audience in discussions on identifying and treating drug abusers effectively. Dr. Rayees Ahmad, the Nodal Officer of DTF Kulgam, and Miss Humaira, a counselor, also shared their insights on the occasion.
The students of Alhilal Educational Institute showcased their talents through a skit and a poignant poem by Rafiq Tahir Kawchecki, shedding light on the detrimental impact of drug abuse. In attendance were numerous members of civil society, along with representatives from educational institutions such as Vice Principal GDC Kulgam, Tehsildar Kulgam, Zonal Education Officer Kulgam, and President of the Bar Association Kulgam.
The seminar organized by Yateem Foundation proved to be a significant step forward in mobilizing society against the menace of drug addiction. With the collective determination and cooperation of all stakeholders, it is hoped that the region can pave the way for a drug-free future, safeguarding the well-being of its citizens and securing a prosperous society.
