Kargil, Jan 19: Kargil’s vibrant Ice Hockey community is facing an unexpected setback as warm weather disrupts the annual ritual of ice rink preparation, posing a threat to the dreams of aspiring players in the region. The Department of Youth Services & Sports (YSS), which has been a pivotal force in championing #IceHockey for 14 years, finds itself challenged by the absence of conducive conditions for the formation of natural ice.
Despite tireless efforts by the YSS Department, which includes the organization of tournaments and coaching camps, the prevailing warm weather in mid-January is hindering the creation of the essential ice surface. This unforeseen obstacle jeopardizes the continuation of a cherished sport in Ladakh.
In response to the crisis, the YSS Department is leaving no stone unturned, exploring innovative solutions to salvage the ice hockey season. Among these measures is the consideration of using electric fans during the night to stimulate the freezing process and counter the adverse weather conditions.
The Ice Hockey community, once accustomed to the exhilarating competitions and camaraderie on the ice, now awaits anxiously for a resolution. The outcome of these efforts will not only determine the fate of this year’s tournaments but also the future of a sport that has become an integral part of Kargil’s cultural fabric.
