Srinagar, Feb 27: Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. (KPDCL) on Thursday said that despite heavy snowfall across Kashmir Valley, all power feeders remained functional, and electricity supply was not disrupted.
KPDCL Managing Director Mehmood Ahmad Shah told Rising Kashmir that snowfall, especially in North Kashmir, had not affected power distribution. “All grid stations, feeders are live and active. There is no disruption, and our teams are on high alert to handle any emergencies,” he said.
However consumers also raised concerns about erratic power supply, stating that despite paying their bills on time, they do not receive electricity as per the scheduled hours. Many demanded a more reliable power supply, especially during harsh weather conditions when electricity becomes essential.
KPDCL officials, however, reiterated that there was no damage to power infrastructure due to snowfall. They acknowledged that there might be minor local faults in some areas but assured that teams were on the ground to address them. “Our staff is on high alert, and we are committed to providing hassle-free electricity to consumers,” an official said.
Residents in Kupwara, Bandipora, and Baramulla reported power supply issues, claiming that some areas faced outages despite assurances from the department. Consumers alleged that they frequently experience unscheduled power cuts, regardless of the season.
“We pay hefty electricity bills, yet power cuts remain a problem,” said Ajaz Ahmad, a resident of Bandipora. “Since the snowfall, our area has been without electricity, leaving us in darkness. This is not just a winter issue; we face power disruptions throughout the year.”
Consumers were urged to report any issues for prompt resolution, as the department continues efforts to maintain smooth power distribution across the Valley.
